I have been waiting the last month to find the time to make it over to the Green Bay Open Air Market<\/a>. I first heard great things about it from my chiropractor of all people. They have beautiful and tasty locally grown produce, Amish baked goods, and crafts. I decided that in conjunction with my new menu plan (to be seen in the next blog) I wanted to make sure I got as much locally grown in season produce as possible. Well I finally made it over there last night with the DH’s awesome nighttime driving skills. Take a guess what all of this cost me. Missing from the picture are a dozen local free range eggs and a bag of cookies (eaten on the ride home).<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Just so we’re clear, that is a shopping bag stuffed with kale, six apples, two huge sweet potatoes, one zucchini, six bell peppers, two heads of broccoli and a bag of homemade lemon balm noodles and homemade spaghetti sauce in addition to the missing eggs and cookies. All of this cost me 14 dollars. That’s right, 14. Let’s do the math, free range eggs at the store are easily $3.50. Colorful bell peppers $2 each. Apples $5 a pound. Broccoli about a dollar a pound. Sweet potatoes a dollar a pound. Kale in a bag at the store is about $6 for less than what I got. Spaghetti sauce of that size at least $5. Zucchini about 98 cents. I think that’s everything…add it all up by the weights of what I got, that’s about $36 dollars at the store. I saved half.  I love buying locally!<\/p>\n
