A V\u00f6lva (Old Norse for “staff-carrier” or “wand-carrier”) was\u00a0a highly respected seeress, shaman, and practitioner of\u00a0sei\u00f0r<\/a>\u00a0(magic) in Norse mythology and Viking Age society. These women were feared and revered for their ability to prophecy, influence fate, and communicate with spirits, with their, often, travelling practice supported by, or in opposition to, traditional societal norms.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The V\u00f6lva was a seeress of the Norse world a staff-bearing witch who walked between settlements carrying prophecy like a blade wrapped in cloth.<\/span>

In the old stories, especially within the poetic traditions of Poetic Edda, a V\u00f6lva is summoned not for comfort but for truth. Kings sought her counsel. Communities fed and honored her. And yet, her words were often unsettling. Because foresight rarely tells you what you want.<\/span><\/p>
