If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.\u201d <\/span><br \/><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2014 <em>as quoted in<\/em> <strong>Unexpected News<\/strong> (1984), Robert McAfee Brown, p. 19<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b53243e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b53243e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">People often treat this as a moral exhortation. But Tutu wasn\u2019t moralizing; he was describing mechanics.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Many systems already distribute weight unevenly. Power already leans in one direction. In that kind of landscape, \u201cneutrality\u201d isn\u2019t a midpoint \u2014 it\u2019s an additional pound on the heavier side. The structure doesn\u2019t need your endorsement to keep pressing down; it only needs your absence.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>The elephant doesn\u2019t need your help.<\/strong><\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>The mouse notices your silence.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Neutrality isn\u2019t inherently wrong. Even in Stoicism, we\u2019re taught to withhold unnecessary opinions. But the cardinal virtues ask more of us than non\u2011involvement. When harm is active and visible, neutrality becomes a choice with consequences \u2014 not because of intention, but because of physics. Weight goes somewhere.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And maybe this is part of the weight inside the spring stories themselves. Across cultures, this season has always carried rituals of burden, release, and rebalancing:<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0fc370d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0fc370d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ol><li><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ostara marks the tilt toward light and the return of agency.<\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pesach and Passover retell liberation from systems that pressed down too long.<\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ramadan\u2019s close emphasizes accountability, repair, and the redistribution of care.<\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lent\u2019s ending is a slow shedding \u2014 a recognition of what we\u2019ve carried, what we\u2019ve avoided, and what must be confronted.<\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Easter centers on a figure who becomes the one to bear the cost when empire, crowd, and institution all step back<\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-35d6947 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"35d6947\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Different traditions, same seasonal architecture: spring asks who carries the weight, who is freed from it, and who pretends not to see it.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7acdd47 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7acdd47\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It\u2019s mythic because the pattern repeats.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It\u2019s historical because it\u2019s been happening for millennia.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sometimes the most honest thing we can do is acknowledge where our weight lands.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ac113bf elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ac113bf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Epictetus said it plainly: <\/span><\/p><blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cDon\u2019t explain your philosophy. Embody it.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote><p style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Discourses (Book 3, Chapter 23)<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-aec6249 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"aec6249\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Across these spring traditions, the message is similar \u2014 liberation, renewal, sacrifice, accountability. None of them are passive.
