Not about any of us who\u2019ve been living inside this new velocity field.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It isn&#8217;t mimicry. It is drift. Velocity drift.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Something in the system sped up, and we sped up with it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Kids feel disruptions in cadence and most often before adults do. They\u2019re hungry observers, natural modelers, tuned to the emotional architecture of a room long before they understand its content. They absorb whatever the environment rewards \u2014 depth or velocity, coherence or chaos, attention or autopilot. And lately, the environment has been rewarding speed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Use it until it\u2019s acceptable. Use it until it passes. Use it until the friction disappears.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">But friction is where the flawed and messy human parts live \u2014 presence, nuance, conviction. Those literacies don\u2019t scale cleanly. They require slowness, adversity, and the kind of attention that can\u2019t be automated. And yet the cultural cadence keeps accelerating, pushing us toward execution as if it\u2019s the only metric worth honoring.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I felt that acceleration again today at work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Someone was pressing me with the old \u201ccomply or die\u201d drink the lemon-aid tone \u2014 urgency masquerading as clarity. The lean\u2011team cadence. The velocity hum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">My fingers hitting the keyboard more and more and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And in the middle of all that lean\u2011ness, I\u2019m trying to tune into where I can stay human. Where I can stay relevant. Where I can stay me.\u00a0 Where I can deliver discernments that have been earned through the forge of knowing, unmaking and making again.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I\u2019ve been thinking about this a lot \u2014 especially now, at the hinge of the seasonal equinox. There\u2019s something about this time of year that exposes thresholds. The light shifts. The air thins. The nervous system becomes a little more honest. And in that honesty, I feel the cost of velocity.\u00a0 The law of diminishing returns and its stripping of authenticity and quality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Because when speed becomes the default, the quieter models get drowned out. Compliance and conviction \u2014 the old binary \u2014 start circling again, waiting for their moment to reassert themselves. But those aren\u2019t the only models. I tangibly\u00a0 feel it \u2014 the way everything gets optimized until nothing has room to take shape. AI seeks to smooth the path, remove the friction, and then wonder why the outcomes feel thin.\u00a0 At scale it has mimicked a common end destination and outcome of humans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">That\u2019s why the \u201cAI voice\u201d feels uncanny. Not because it\u2019s artificial, but because it\u2019s frictionless. And frictionless language is not how humans grow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When my friend wrote about his daughter saying \u201cYou sound like AI\u201d on his LinkedIn thread, the daughter wasn\u2019t critiquing vocabulary. She was naming the drift \u2014 the cadence that slides toward speed, toward compression, toward clarity that arrives without struggle. She was naming the absence of adversity in the way we\u2019re starting to speak.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Kids don\u2019t articulate it that way. They just feel the modeling. And modeling is the real signal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Because whether we intend it or not, we\u2019re teaching them that velocity is wisdom, that output is agency, that the fastest answer is the truest one. But scale teaches its own lessons, and the question is whether we\u2019re listening or just sprinting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">So when you hear bet, or sus, or 67, or any other smoothed\u2011down fragment slipping in from a different vocabulary threshold, pay attention. Those aren\u2019t just slang. They\u2019re velocity markers. Compression artifacts. The linguistic equivalent of a nervous system running hot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The signals are speaking. I\u2019ve watched too many systems promise simplicity and deliver complexity. I\u2019ve watched too many teams assume trust instead of earning it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It\u2019s boundary-setting.
