Weekly Reflections and Focus
This week was a hot mess with work exploding a bit while I was traveling. I was still able to get out there during M- Thurs and have some good runs. I went on a exploration run around land’s End on the San Francisco coast line. My pace is not reflective of what I did as I just let the Garmin capture. I did seek out every staircase I could and also got down to some of the beaches and took some stellar photos. The highlight of my travel runs was running the coast in the rain on thursday. I was so warm and everyone was looking at me sideways for being so lightly dressed. Shorts and a ironman finisher’s t shirt. Anyway. I have been pushing tempo a bit and pushing threshold when I can’t get a better long distance in for the week. I also and trying to get that ‘internal governor’ to follow me as I extend a bit. Things did get busy with upcoming Halloween and house/yard chores – leaves, painting, pumpkins, kidlets.
I am starting to realize that my LASIK surgery is truly just around the corner. That means there will be a significant impact in training and things for a 3-4 week period. Surgery is set for December 8th. Good thing I still have loads of vacation time this week.
Overall this was a good week except for not getting something in on Saturday, but in doing lawn and leaves I got about 4-5 miles in of other walking oriented activities while doing chores. It’s something.
There was a podcast I heard that I wanted to highlight from Endurance planet here : Podcast link. I don’t expect to go pro, but this couple’s approach sounds much like Liz and I and our little family. I am grateful for the perspectives that she and I have engendered since I finally heard her message (Liz, my wife.) And last note, my wife’s birthday was on October 28, Last Friday – so needless to say, a forced rest was inevitable and she deserves the doting.
Also of NOTE: I was accepted into a training program with Tridot – Copied below is the request to share with others, I feel that on my blog is viable and acceptable ?

Hi
You can take advantage of FREE preseason triathlon training and experience better in-season performance by participating in TriDot‘s 2017 Preseason Project. (Seriously, no payment of any kind!)
In 2011 and 2013, TriDot conducted preseason research that proved optimized preseason training has a significant impact on your in-season results!
And now, as the leader in triathlon training based on big data and predictive analytics, we’re ready to prove it again!
YOU CAN AND WILL IMPROVE YOUR PERFORMANCE!
In 2013, 837 athletes participated in our study. Those who used TriDot for the full season improved their performance on average 1 hour and 17 minutes more than the control group (those who didn’t use TriDot) at the full distance. And 33 minutes more at the half.
Keep in mind, those were AVERAGE gains!
(Check out the short video detailing the 2013 Preseason Project results.)
We also looked at the difference in using TriDot during both preseason and in-season versus the in-season only. The numbers were amazing. Those who trained with TriDot in both the preseason and in-season gained 94% more at the half distance and 635% more at the full than those who trained with TriDotonly during their in-season (the final 3-4 months leading up to their race).
How you invest your preseason is the difference maker! And the longer your race, the more significant your preseason is.
What would that level of improvement mean for you? PR? Podium? It certainly shows how doing the preseason right is sooo important.
GET YOUR PRESEASON TRAINING FREE WITH THE 2017 PRESEASON PROJECT.
We believe the preseason is so important we’ve decided to launch our third preseason training study, the 2017 TriDot Preseason Project (PSP).

And the best news? Those athletes who qualify for the PSP will receive preseason training for FREE!
