Wrangling in some disconnected thoughts from recent postings on socials

Seeking things

I've seen plenty a beautiful thing through life, I ride the upticks and appreciate the lulls and definite valleys, too. This is just a thought! Also, I I tend to "look for the helpers" - thanks to Mr. Rogers mom for that brilliant and beautiful piece of advice. One of my fave ways to distill and retune the disambiguation and noise - the sanctuary of the pool. Glad sarc has reinstated 10:30 pm so that I can visit my sanctuary. More grind tomorrow at work.

I was able to string together another effort in the pool where I don’t feel gassed 2 swim strokes in. Bonus - 500’s are becoming solid and not breaking form.

The Power of One (1992)

A thought worth Considering

Worth REading

The title of this book put me off for some time. I finally read it after reading the first one by Mark Manson. It is truly a book about hope! One of my favorite stories is around Mark Manson being at the edge of the world and an interaction with a ‘local’. When the author set out on this writing endeavor, it seems where he landed was describing how to navigate today - not completely aware that hat he was serendipitously doing just that. A fun read about hope! A few takeaways for me included:

1

His book correlates to conditions of today – although that was not his intended target at time of writing

2

COVID was just becoming real

3

A.I. was just coming on the scene

4

Manson’s usage and highlights and pros and the cons of situations that he likened to Newton’s Laws

5

Manson’s usage and highlights Kant and his formula for humanity

May be a doodle of text that says 'Worry about your character, not your tyourreputation. reputation. Your characteris who you are. Your reputation is who people think you are. JOHN WOODEN'

wandering thoughts - John Wooden

The thought above by John Wooden was very a propos given how I wandered across it. Liz and I took our time while dating and we feel as we approach 21 years - we have learned plenty of lessons. This one though, it rings true. In our experience and through observation, we have witnessed that no parenting story is perfect. I have found the more honest I am with myself and with Liz and with my kids, improvement is almost always available. No masks, no charades and a willingness to pivot at my wife’s or kiddo’s discretion. What a ride it has been and continues to be. Through the years I have watched many trusted folks lose sight of things like character. I have done it some myself. A few knee-jerk and neck-whips from carefully and poirnantly placed words from Liz has provided significant guard rails and motivations to recalibrate. Not in some charade to preserve a reputation to seal the difference between compulsory and performative cultural or dogmatic needs - rather in a purposeful and intentional journey of reasonable self scrutiny. When I glimpse in that rear-view mirror from time to time I see great things!

ANNE Frank Quote wandering thoughts

A very interesting connection I made today. Many cultures have practices that involve grounding in trees, including Shamanic practices, ancient Chinese cultures, and indigenous Australian and American cultures.

Recently I was reminded of a quote by Anne Frank from her diary - she’s stated - “paper has more patience than people”.

Then I thought, where does paper come from? Trees.

And then my mind says - you have been finding comfort in your blog thoughts.

Welp, then I thought, about a song titled summertime rolls and how nothing’s shocking.

Meanwhile I drift back to Liz and my weddings song for our first dance as a married couple - I played it this morning for growing Lucas and Juniper and Astrid putting together it’s from wiz of Oz and that mom loves Wicked!

Yes! crazy things happen when contrast is put into one’s arm to flow thru the cranium.

Don’t fret, the mri was not remarkable. As Liz stated earlier - Shane, congrats you have a healthy brain. Doc said - heck they even found you have one!

Napoleon is quoted to have said this between his exiles to elba and st helena.

History has a long story of repeating. While i do like the title of Mark Manson's book - Everything is F'd! The subtitle is interesting "A book about hope" - and it truly was!

I do think a lot is still available for smiles. I have been recently reminded of Anne Frank's quote “Paper has more patience than people” - so my personal journaling via my blog has seen an uptick in my mindset posts.

I hope to have more triathlon related posts in the near term too. Cheers!

Apparently it’s been a day! Now to find myself some more swim, bike and run while the relentless noise bangs on, so heavily that many can’t distinguish that it’s just the simple beat of history repeating. To the great Shirley BasSey - yes, that’s the sound!

This random run on sentence and thought was brought on by a post i saw by the original regal beast! I know him as Hans! Cheers!

REcently finished listening to Timothy Egan's REcent book

A chilling interaction shared in Timothy Egan's epilogue - context - Will Remy was the lawyer that defended the deceased Madge Oberholzer, and the Grand Dragon DC Stephenson that he lead to a sentence of 2nd degree murder --

“Late in his prison term, Stephenson was visited by Will Remy. His old adversary asked him if he’d been serious about running for the White House. Steve said the plan was real. “You wouldn’t have called it President,” he said. “The form of government might have changed. You might have had a dictator.”

Author: Timothy Egan

Below are some of my previous references to Timothy Egan and his writing of this book. My first writing was in August/September of 2023. THis re-listen post election really stirred up more than I wanted and too many co-relations. But here we are.

Sisterhood connecting as one.

“Until we have met the monsters in ourselves, we keep trying to slay them in the outer world. And we find that we cannot. For all darkness in the world stems from darkness in the heart. And it is there that we must do our work.”

― Marianne Williamson

Unstoppable

Unstoppable they called her but I saw her stop
I saw her stop
many many times.
Sometimes
I thought she had stopped for good
but no
she always found a way to resurrect.
To rise again.
Not the same never the same.
Each time a little more determined and a little less vulnerable.
Unstoppable they said but I think
it was in the stopping that she found her power
