#ZENTRIATHLETE – SHANE LIVINGSTON

Who is zentriathlete?

Who is my Audience?

image-1-550x550

I share my story simply to keep me focused, honest and real – authentic is a more appropriate intention.  My blog is for me first, but  should you happen across my blog.  I invite you to leave a comment and let me know your thoughts.  It is my humble hope that you may find something in my musings that will allow you to not make the same mistakes I have along the way.  My only hope is that my story may serve to help you in your journey too. All the best and Cheers!

Why Journal/Blog?

2020-09-08-Smoky-Mountains-Color-Multi-Name

This is still an evolving intention and reasoning.  What I found is that I create blog/journal posts that it became a way for me to accomplish professional development.  It allowed me to think and reflect on my trainings – a way to measure for me my aspirations and failures and successes.  It has become much more, but in the end, I have a rear view to look at and am often overwhelmed in the wonders of gratitude growth and resilience.  I try to keep posts triathlon, mindset, training and family focused.  Sometimes intersections of life, joy, defeat and joy bring some more personal rabbit holes.  Honestly catharsis and shake it off, let it go. Get back at it tomorrow.

What's my Story?

FB_IMG_1672623061808-550x550

I am currently a Utah resident living in Cache Valley.  I am 50 years young.  “I Play Triathlon”. I work remotely and enjoy being with my nuclear family.  I first came to Cache Valley in 1992 to attend school.  My wife came to school approx 2002 and we married in 2004.  We left Utah in 2008/9 and returned in 2010.  Since returning we have owned 2 homes, had 3 more kiddos, added many animals and pursue wanderlust adventures with our circle of chaos.

My personal transformation story is well represented in a blog post (click here)!

When it comes to why I’m blogging, I’ll admit it’s a bit self-serving, primarily for my own benefit. I found myself struggling with writing at work, so I decided to turn this into a professional development activity. The main goal of this blog is to document my journey in endurance sports. I’ve successfully completed several 70.3 Ironman events in St. George, along with many training sessions and races that have helped me prepare for these challenges. I participate, I’ve landed on the podium a few times, and I also volunteer at different events. This journey has brought me both joy and disappointment.

Over the past few years, my perspective has shifted significantly. First and foremost, I’ve realized how much I cherish my family. I’m incredibly thankful to my wife for putting up with my antics. We have wonderful children, and despite our imperfections, we come together as our own little tribe. We’re not perfect by any means, but thankfully, life goes on, and the finish line hasn’t come just yet.

In my professional life, I spend a lot of time observing people and situations. This has allowed me to better understand myself in relation to others I meet and interact with. I am grateful for the life I have and for the journey that has brought me here. I draw on the experiences, lessons learned from both my failures and successes, to navigate forward.

I’ve been following the Crushing Iron community for a while now, and it’s made a significant impact on my life, not just in the realm of endurance sports. I’m really thankful for what these two gentlemen do! In short, co-founder Mike T reached out to me and suggested I check it out, and since then, I’ve become an engaged listener.

I love diving into all sorts of activities! Whether it’s triathlon training—running, cycling, swimming—or getting outdoors for hiking and exploring, I’m all in. I also try to pay attention to nutrition and make time for rest and recovery. My goal is to stay healthy and fit enough to support each of my kids if they decide to tackle an endurance triathlon (like a 70.3 or 140.6) and embrace my passion for an active lifestyle

In my spare time, I delve into the teachings of stoicism and strive to wander and intersect with awe, wonder and joy as I refine my spirituality and faith. Professionally, I’ve been working in Educational Technology as a Principal Consultant since June 2010. I observe, I inform and I instruct – with consent, of course. There’s a lot more to me, but I believe this gives a great brief snapshot!

I was also an active Team Zoot Ambassador – 2020 -2024! Racing as One! Ohana!

A Glimpse Into My Triathlon Journey

Creating healthy patterns while I play triathlon:

I will continue a healthy regiment of swimming, cycling and running.  I will prepare for cycling and triathlon events.  I am trying to regain a healthy weight under 200 lbs.   I will continue to keep on pedaling!!! I don’t often create goals. As I try to learn, recalibrate or overcome things – I strive to develop patterns and trajectories.  Here’s some I am chasing the latter part of 2023 and going into 2024.

Starting to detach from all extra platforms

Capturing my training via WordPress using embeds with Garmin Connect. Too many subscriptions, and moving piecemeal approaches. Currently, I use a Garmin Fenix 5 watch. This means my initial connection point is via Garmin Connect platform. I use ROUVY for my indoor and virtual training rides, and that delivers my output to Garmin Connect and Trainingpeaks. Sorry Strava, I think I will just let things flow through unedited until further notice.

"The beauty of triathlon and a reasonable self-scrutiny journey is that it can be done in a variety of places, by people of all abilities, at distances both short and long. Now, Let's Play Triathlon!"
